- Dear MakeDemo Enthusiast:
-
- We thank you for the opportunity to show off MakeDemo, version 2.
- We're confident that, after viewing the enclosed MakeDemo "Help"
- files and creating a file or two, you will choose MakeDemo for
- your presentation needs. You get the whole program, to see what
- MakeDemo and ShowDemo can do for you.
-
- To view the presentation, merely type "SHOWME" at the DOS prompt
- and follow directions as they appear on the screen.
-
- If MakeDemo is for you, and we think it will be, we urge you to
- register. MakeDemo and ShowDemo are copyrighted software
- products developed for WindhamWoods Publishing. Neither are in
- the "PUBLIC DOMAIN" nor are they "FREEWARE." The file, "Please
- Register" explains all the benefits of registering. The cost for
- all this power is $35. Since MakeDemo's first release in 1989,
- much hard work has gone into this upwardly compatible upgrade.
- We can continue to enhance the features and functions of MakeDemo
- and ShowDemo only if those who use it register.
-
- The documentation consists of the fifteen presentation choices
- that you can also send to a printer from within MakeDemo or
- ShowDemo. (Or you can order a hard copy for a nominal fee when
- you register.) To order, first print an order form directly from
- within MakeDemo or ShowDemo by first pressing the function key,
- F2, and following directions.
-
- WindhamWoods Publishing believes in the Shareware approach to
- marketing software. MakeDemo and ShowDemo are available
- exclusively through shareware channels. We encourage you to make
- copies for friends and business associates and to support the
- many bulletin board services (BBS) and shareware outlets around
- the country.
-
- WindhamWoods Publishing aims to produce easy to learn and use
- software products for the business and personal user. We are
- ever vigilant to make our products better and we look to our
- supporters to help us in this effort. We welcome your comments
- and questions. If there is a feature that would increase your
- effectiveness with our product please let us know.
-
- Thank you

- Taken together, these files form the User's Manual for MakeDemo.
-
- A typical presentation consists of the four ShowDemo files listed
- above and with the same names, although you would probably
- substitute your own "HELP.WWP" and "TITLE.WWP." You can choose
- any file extension for your presentation files. Here we chose
- the ".HLP" extension because these files double as "Help" for
- MakeDemo, which looks for files only with the ".HLP" extension.
- If you don't like our "help," we are open to suggestions.
-
-
- Let's Get Going ---------------
-
- What better introduction can we make to MakeDemo than to help you
- start viewing some presentations created with MakeDemo using its
- companion program ShowDemo. Everything you are about to see was
- created with MakeDemo, and relatively quickly I might add. If
- you see an effect that you like, it's available to you to
- incorporate in your own presentations.
-
- ShowDemo presentations with 350+ individual screens are designed
- to run directly from floppy disk: no need to install anything to
- the hard disk. Simply insert the disk in an available drive, log
- onto that drive, type "SHOWME," and press <Enter.>
-
- To simultaneously print what you see, press the function key, F6.
- Then, as you manually sequence through the screens, the printer
- will print what you see. Or, press <Enter> to start the "auto"
- presentation mode and leave the printer to do its thing. "Auto"
- mode causes the screens to appear at programmed timed intervals.
- Pressing any other key returns the presentation to the "manual"
- mode, enabling the arrow keys.
-
- Note: Pressing any key will stop the "auto" mode. Pressing F6
- again will toggle off the printing. Only print what you need.
-
- First you will see an introductory set of screens, in reality a
- MakeDemo created file, "TITLE.WWP," followed by a list of
- presentations from which to choose. Use the arrow keys to scroll
- through all the choices. Pick one by pressing <Enter.> That's
- all it takes to get going. And if you need help, you can press F1
- anytime to learn more about running a presentation.
-
- F1 calls up "Help," another MakeDemo created file, "WWP.HLP," and
- temporarily substitutes it for the presentation in process.
- Pressing "Escape" or "ESC" reinstates the presentation file, at
- its last viewed screen.
-
- To summarize, only a few keys affect the operation of ShowDemo:
-
- The four arrow keys function as intended.
-
- "PageUp" and "PageDown" jump 5 screens forward or backward,
- respectively, at each key press.
-
- "Home" moves to the beginning of the presentation.
-
- "End" moves to the last screen of the presentation.
-
- When viewing a presentation, pressing "Escape" or "ESC" returns
- the viewer to the list of presentation files or, if pressed a
- second time, out to DOS.
-
- F5 is a toggle between a color display and a monochrome display.
- In most cases, ShowDemo gets it right, but it can be fooled by a
- color card in the computer feeding what in reality is a
- monochrome display, regardless of what the manufacturer claims.
-
- What's new with Version 2:
- -----------------------------------
-
- MakeDemo is fully compatible with previous versions.
- Presentations created with previous versions of MakeDemo are
- automatically converted to the new MakeDemo format when called up
- for the first time.
-
- The sizes of MDEMO.EXE and MSHOW.EXE is reduced 80%, compared to
- the originals. Integrates WindhamWoods Publishing proprietary
- screen compression method freeing up disk space for a total of
- 350+ screens on a 360 kByte diskette, segregated in as many as
- 100 files. RAM requirement for ShowDemo reduced to about 60
- kBytes, MakeDemo to about 120 kBytes.
-
- As discussed in "Let's Get Going," any presentation, or portion
- thereof, can be printed. The "User's Manual" is the fifteen
- ".HLP" files supplied with this diskette.
-
- ShowDemo's user-friendliness has been improved: such as allowing
- for jumping around within a presentation, going in and out of the
- "auto" mode, and in general not holding the computer system
- captive for the duration of a presentation.
-
- As discussed in "Let's Get Going," MakeDemo/ShowDemo enables a
- manual override of color/monochrome display formatting, using the
- function key, F5. Now, when a monochrome display is connected to
- a color adaptor card, you can switch over instantly without first
- exiting to DOS, typing in some modifying commands, and then
- restarting the presentation all over again. MakeDemo also allows
- viewing a demo, being created in color, as it would appear on a
- monochrome display.
-
- ShowDemo now supports a growing number of presentation styles,
- sound effects, and wider range of display timings.
-
- Creators of presentation now can design their own "Help" facility
- as an integral companion to their presentation(s).
-
- From within MakeDemo "view" any ASCII text file or MakeDemo file
- and import any sequence of "screens" into a work in process.
-
- Choose from four large fonts when creating outstanding screens.
- The font library is capable of user additions and customizing
- using almost any ASCII text editor.
-
- Full box creation with automatic correction for crossing lines.
- Box library capable of user additions and customizing using
- almost any ASCII text editor.
-
-
- We would appreciate -
- ---------------------
-
- In all presentations, F2 is dedicated to a WindhamWoods
- Publishing sales pitch. We would appreciate your making mention
- of this key in your introductory screens. Nothing helps us more
- than your making great presentation with MakeDemo.
-
- Some Things Technical
- ---------------------
-
- ShowDemo runs on an IBM or compatible PC, XT, AT, or 386
- machine with 60 K RAM with either a monochrome or color display.
- For best operation the "CONFIG.SYS" file should contain the
- following two lines: FILES=10 (minimum) and BUFFERS=10.
-
- Some compatible computers might pose a problem or two. If you're
- using a monochrome monitor and the display goes blank, but
- bright, the chances are that your computer is equipped with a
- color card. You can correct this confusion on the part of WWP
- programs by typing, at the DOS prompt, MODE MONO or MODE BW80 and
- then proceed as you normally would.
-
- Both MakeDemo and ShowDemo make extensive use of the numeric
- keypad. If you experience problems, be sure that "NumLock" is
- off and/or that you use the correct keypad keys.
